Wasior, (Antara)- The regency of Wondama Bay, West Papua, has heirloom stone people believed as miracolous stone.

“We used to call it stone mate “batu jodoh” today, people still believed it, and must keep the heirloom,” Ricky Imburi-a young man said in Wasior on Wednesday.

He said, the stone laid in Yop island. It’s one island of Wondama Bay, inhabited by more than 200 Wondamenese ethnic groups.

Ricky said that, the stone is in flat shape with 1 meter length and 30 cm in width. It’s believed that if one could lift it, he will have good wish.

“The young man in Wondama who wants to be an army or policeman,they went first to Yop island to lift the stone. If the could lift it, they will pass the test for sure,”he said.

Inthe past, he added, the stone also beleive as the mate sign for a couple.
“Until now, people beleive is as there were some proven story. Therefore, the stone must be kept as the ancestor’s heritence.

He explained that yop island is not far away fom the downtown. With normal speed, it could be reached from wasior by boat for an hour.

So far, the island become a destination for tourists who come to wondama bay.
“many tourists from Australia came to see to stone, he said.

He added, the local goverment should facilitate tour guides in wondama bay for the visitors’ satisfacion.(***)
